This is the original photo straight out of the camera.

This is my first edit. I wanted to keep the subject the focus and used a preset called fashion iv

This is a little bit darker and I was just trying to tweek it to how I liked it.

This is the first time I have used this preset. It is called Civil war. Fixed the exposure so it wasn't so light on her face and then added some opacity to her eyes.

Generic Hi contrast with a blue filter

And the classic popped colors cause the picture is cute all by itself.

And as always, don't take the picture to use as your own work. Only edits are copyrighted by myself but the photo is not mine. Please don't steal.

Fix it Friday-Lightroom

I have to catch up on 2 photos for my 365 but I will. This is one of my favorite days. I have really enjoyed learning post production on my photos so a chance to post produce is always a treat.

Here is what I came up with.

SOOC- ( straight out of camera) * This photo has not been edited in any way and was NOT taken by me! I just got the chance to play with it. Please do no steal!*

First edit. I used a preset called Morning coffee AFTER I had lightened up her body/face and hair so that it would stand out no matter what I added to it. I also decreased the noise for the softer look.

Using the same photo edits ( the lightening of her body) I used another preset called Fashion shot and then I changed the back lighting to be a little softer.

I used Pretty Presets Baby blue for this one. I left it at the preset. I don't' love it but it was still fun to try. I haven't found a great picture to use that preset to the best of its ability.

Last but not least, I did a classic black and white. Used a preset called b and w beach and kept the same back light as the fashion shot above.

All photos were edited using lightroom 3. Oh and all photos were cropped closer to her face and rotated more than the original.

365 to 31~ Day 12

A little back ground. Ty is developmentally delayed. He just started talking recently ( like 3 months recently) and has exploded with his talking. He really likes Mickey Mouse. He has also become very interested in Holidays. Mickey Mouse has a show for pretty much EVERY holiday including birthdays. He has watched a lot of birthday's lately and it was my birthday a few weeks ago.

We want him to have a good birthday this year and be excited about all things birthday. We have to really gear him up for everything and practice and pretend and remind. Today was a "remind us about birthday day." He wanted a cake and I didn't have one. So I compromised and did the best that I could.

So we practice blowing out the candles

And wonder how his mom became so clever as to grab a box of ding dongs ( which we NEVER buy) and add birthday candles on the top in which to carry all over the house and into the DMV! GO mom!!

I LOVE flowers. No matter if they grow rampant in my yard in places they aren't suppose to. With Tyler being gone in the mornings I am able to get out and take some photos. Good thing, because I need the practice.

Dallas had a stressful day at work so he decided to take a drive and ended up here. The top of Traverse Mountain in million dollar homes with a view of Utah Valley on one side and Salt Lake Valley on the other. After he took us to dinner we drove BACK up so I could see the view. It was very pretty. I am not a landscape photography but I thought the view was worth a shot.

Tyler is my subject 99.9 % of the time right now. I need to branch out. This is Tyler in the pool. He was playing on Tuesday in his Jammie's. He is outside in the pool most of the day. He plays with his "Friend" Leo and literally JUMPS for a LONG time. I love him.

He comes in drenched and soggy and he always comes in saying " Oh no! What Happened?"

My Trusty subject AGAIN! Tyler and I had a pizza picnic and I decided to take some pictures with my new lens. I am trying not to over edit and he still moves a ton. We have gotten him to smile and say cheese when I have my camera out but he is hard to hold somewhat still.

I again used light room to edit. I am not sure if I used a preset or not.

I am SUCH a HUGE HUGE slacker. BUT I have renewed hope and vigor and would like to try again.

August 26th was my birthday and I turned the big 30~

Yep, it is true. I turned the big 30 and I feel every second of it! I accomplished a lot in my 20 years and now I want to something else. That something else is get really good at something.

So I am starting over in my endeavor to get better and I am going to do 365 to 31! So keep reminding me. You might get a lot of posts in one night but I am GOING to do better. I am also offering a lot of free shoots and "discounted" so if you know of anyone willing to let me practice PLEASE let me know.

So, Day 1

The story behind it. It was my birthday and Ty had been talking about birthday hats since getting a birthday book. He LOVES the birthday book and when Dallas went to get something on my birthday he snagged a few birthday hats. Ty LOVES them. So he wore one all day. Even to swim. (Hence the naked body.)

What I think I need to work on is getting a model to stand still! And learning how to better use my settings so that when he does move I get a better shot. I edited using lightroom.

Sunflowers

I have been driving past a bunch of sunflowers for a few weeks and finally I was driving by, in the car alone, and had my camera. I stopped ran into the bunch and snapped a few photos. I have not been that great at doing landscape anything but have had fun playing with the Macro setting on my lens. I have also learned a few editing techniques that I wanted to try.

There you have the field of flowers. I really love sunflowers and hope to shoot a few more times before they leave for the fall!

The Wood Shop

In December my Grandpa Rue passed away. He was an avid wood maker. He would make tons of things with wood. When I was younger he built a wood shop in the backyard. If you didn't find him in the house he was sitting on his chair in the wood shop fiddling and drawing or making something.

I went to visit my mom this week and I had many dreams about taking some pictures of his tools hanging on the wall. Walking in the shop was a little surreal. It took my breathe away. But I got a few photos and I think they turned out pretty good.

This is my creative one. I know not that creative but I liked it. I gave it a more dramatic crop and used pretty presets brown. Made some adjustments on the settings.

This one is a preset but I can't remember which one. ( If you want to know I will look it up for you) Ran an adjusment brush over his face to make it pop out. The eyes were done in the preset.

This is just the black and white conversion that I liked.

I cropped this photo and use a preset called PHfashion IV and the tweek a few settings. The eyes change with the preset so I left them how they showed up. I do like this one.

Using Pretty Presets Brown. I LOVE their presets and if I had a million dollars I would be buying ALL of them. Again crop was done and tweeked settings

This one is pretty presets Sugar and it was cropped.

I am Fix it Friday a day late. I am sure no one visits over here but I enjoy the practice. I use the new and improved Lightroom 3. I decided I liked it and bought a nice whopping copy and I have to say the colors on PRINT are amazing.

This was my favorite. It looks the most natural. A preset was used as well, her eyes were brightened just a little bit and the clarity fixed.

I was able to take some family photos of a dear friend Denise. She is getting ready to move and we FINALLY were able to met up and get some pictures taken. I had never been to this location and I have learned things for the next one but I am excited to get these to her. Her kids were wonderful.

This is for the fix it Friday. I used lightroom and used a preset called Surreal moments. Fixed my exposure and added clarity. Softened the noise and saved. Oh and it was cropped.

I ♥ Faces- yellow

This is my entry to I heart faces for my photography blog. I decided that this was perfect. Her hair is the perfect shade of "Yellow" and she is the cutest little girl.

This was taken on a somewhat rainy day. All the photos had to be taken around her mom, who had to hold her because she is in a cast. She was not the happiest camper either and didn't want her picture taken.

Photo was edited in Lightroom Beta with several presets from Pretty presets. And the focal length was 90 mm f 5.6. No flash was used. ISO was at 400

Daphne

On May 5th Daphne was diagnosed with Leukemia and immediately started on Chemo therapy. She is a VERY cute little girl with a VERY cute little smile. She has a long battle and she is on a road that is bumpy. The good thing... She is stubborn and she is LOVED.

Oh and Her mom is my cousin. We love these 3.

Chelsie asked me to take her pictures before her hair started to fall out. I of course was HONORED and so excited. I wanted to borrow her a long time ago but now I got the chance.

Make a Wish- Kayden

My nephew Kayden has Hypoplastic kidney disease. His Kidneys never really grew. A few years ago he was given and AWESOME gift from a family who was going through the worst time of their life. He was given a second chance of life by this family who donated their loved ones kidney.

This last year he was finally big enough to make a wish. He was big enough because he was healthy and all that fun stuff. He wanted to meet Buzz Light Year. So they went to Disney World in Florida for a week.

The wish was sponsored by some pretty remarkable people. LOTS of remarkable people. The student body at West Jordan High raised money to give to Make a Wish. This remarkable donations was able to fund 3 FULL wishes.

Kayden was the first wish to ever get to meet his wish makers. It was an awesome experience. It was very emotional and very amazing. I can't wait for us to get one of our own!

Kayden... Raising his star. When you wish upon a star. It doesn't make a difference who you are!

Listening to Kayden and Tammy tell about their trip. Kayden was HILARIOUS!

These are 2 of the girls from the High School that came to be with Kayden for his star raising. They were so sweet. I am glad they got to see it.

A wish wall. A sobering thing to see. We have 3 chronically ill children on my moms side of the Family. Between Kayden, Ty and Daphne we have seen and will be seeing a million miracles. This wall is one of those. There is a story for everything. These Hero's have a story that should be told.
This is Kayden's wish Cake. It had Buzz on it. He asked me to hold up Ty Ty and let him see it. Ty stuck his hand in it. Kayden thought it was SOOO funny and wasn't even mad.

This edit is done in lightroom. I used a preset from Pretty Presets called Sweet Honey. I upped the clarity and cropped the photo.

This one is also a preset from Pretty Presets called Spice. Again, I upped the clarity, cropped and changed a few shadows.

This is also in Lightroom using a preset that is a free called Beach.

This is also a ligthroom using a free preset called Morning coffee. I changed luminance and clarity on almost all shots, added a vignette according to my liking.

Fix it Friday- lightroom

Fix it Friday is back. I decided I was going to try and use some of my new presets that I downloaded and then tweak them. The submitter of the photo wanted her eyes to pop and the color to pop. So here is the Original and the Fixes.

This is the original photo given for us to edit.

This is cropped ( Crop was used in ALL fixes) and added a preset called Morning coffee. I tweaked the clarity and the contrast to my liking. I used some clarity on the eyes and lowered the vignette. The preset has it much darker.

This is a preset called fashion III. I used the preset but it seemed to not right so I had to tweak it a little. The preset changed the blues and so it changed her eyes a little. I am not fully sure how to change them back so I just embraced the diffrence and went from there.

Classic black and white

This one has a softness to it but the colors and her eyes still pop.

A few weeks ago when we we looking forward to spring I took a picture of our tree. It survived the snow storms and it starting to blossom. The blossoms are out in full force so I will go out tomorrow and take a few more.

So I have really liked getting out and about taking pictures. The other day while I was waiting for Tyler on the bus ( after his bus incident) the neighbors flower bed had some green. And then this week it SNOWED. I thought I would go back out in the next few days and see if they survived.

SPRING?

I ♥ Faces YUMMY style

I ♥ Desserts and the yumminess eating my feelings does!!

Around Valentines I was asked to make a dessert for a family get together so I made the yummy Fat filled LOVE that my Aunt makes at Christmas. Why not? We all like more to love right!

1 box Devils Food or Deep Chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
flour to handle.

Mix well. Dough will be really thick. Roll into ball the size of a quarter (or as big as you want). Bake at 350 degrees for 5-8 minutes - until flattened-on an ungreased cookie sheet. Do not overbake.

Frosting: One 8-oz cream cheese
1 pound powdered sugar
1 cube butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Mix until creamy. Spread evenly between cookies.

*DO NOT OVERBAKE.. even if they don't look like they are fully cooked it is in your best interest to NOT CARE! They taste best SOFT!!*

This week I am participating in Fix it Friday. I have expanded my knowledge and downloaded the new lightroom and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.. so much that I might buy it when all is said and done.

Though....I would love to TRY out elements. I am not a great photoshoper and have found great satisfaction combining a few free and upgraded online editing up till now ( along with the VERY limited stuff I Know in photoshop.) So I think it came at the perfect time because I have been editing a wedding.

This is the original photo that was presented as the fix it. You can find it HERE!

This is my first edit. I used lightroom beta 3. I downloaded some free presets. This one is called coffee morning. Not much else was done. I cropped a LITTLE bit and played with the adjusting tones and added a vignette SLIGHTLY but not enough to almost register. I think it was at a -2.

This one was again Lightroom 3 and it was also a downloaded preset. It is called SEIM Dynamica and it was lighted and the exposure was adjusted slightly to my liking. No vignette added other than the preset one with the action.

This is a preset from a wedding preset called surreal moment. I cropped it and fixed the eyes to pop a little. Tweaked the lightroom settings and exported it went.

Auto fixed the tone

exposure -5

contrast 11 ( give or take)

Soft focus max radius, smooth the edge hardness,

Eye bright, mascara, teeth whitening. I use the whitening in the corner of the eyes to make them a little brighter.

Vignettes but a soft one.. I don't like the HELLO vignette and have been working on going without or NOTHING or VERY little.

So I haven't felt that I am "good" enough to enter a photo into the I heart faces contest in a while. But this weekend I had a chance to take some family photos and practice on some kids. This little boy was the CUTEST thing EVER!

So the photo............

See the marks on his face... He had just woken up and was NOT going to smile. So all the photos before this were his dad trying to get him to blow raspberries. Well when he realized it made like ALL 50 people waiting behind us laugh he kept doing it. Talk about creating drama!! I was hoping I got this shot when I was shooting away..

So there you have it. A cute little boy being a HAM....

The crop was done in picnik the rest was done in Lightroom 3. I don't like the last fix as well because of the eye shadows. So something I did must have made it off from what I thought it was.

Today I was able to take pictures at the LDS temple in SALT LAKE CITY!

I have and should be getting out and taking photos like I took today.

I took some wedding pictures for a friend as well but the photos that I took before and after were very relaxing and made me realize that there is so much beauty all over.

The little things.

The things that others took the time to make.

Things that are inspired.

And the best.

The things that were inspired by God.

Fix it friday

I was talking to a girl last night about photo editing programs. She was certain that you can't use anything BUT photoshop and she was really struggling to "edit" her photos. I told her you didn't have to and you could do many cool things using free software. Or for a minimal fee upgrade to the "pro" account. So I thought I would edit my photo today using just a "free" software.

I added a texture of a cement wall ( yep.. it is a cement wall) Turned the photo black and white and adjusted the filter to red. And the texture added gives the grainy feel. I also used the rotating feature and flipped the photo so it was "unique" from the original.

I had to use my flash for this photo. It was indoors and late and the indoor lighting was poor. I hate using a flash. That said I preferred to make it black and white because I felt there were some blemishes that I could hide :(

I am trying to figure things out a little bit at a time. Things are getting better. I thought it would be easier. Pictures I took today I HATE them.. so guess I have a lot of work to do!

Today we did food again. Yep! That would be why I am chubby. Actually we were asked to bring desserts for Valentines dinner tonight at Dallas parents house. So we did a family reciepe of Oreo cookies with Red frosting. Like I said if I took another food picture I would get at least 2 percent better and it worked.

Today I looked at Cheryl Muhr. She has been a guest judge over at I heart faces and I really like her work.

I guess I got a little bit better with a food picture. I am pretty proud of that!

I took this one today. I can't wait to see what I can get tomorrow. I see myself looking around with what can I do with that to get a good picture. I don't know what my "kind" of photography is just yet but I like pretty pictures and I like learning. For today my favortie photo was Tyler. He is my perfect photo!

I am not WONDERFUL at my challenge yet. Though I have taken my camera with me a few more places than I normally would I didn't capture the glorious work day of a mom on Tuesday so I am honestly skipping a day so I can take the challenge and get better. I want to get better.

I am not a food photographer. But that was all we did for day so I took the picture. I blogged about our day and what we did all that day and really though the photo may not be the best. The next time I make a scrumptious meal.... I will be photographing at least 2 percent better!

Taking a challenge- Day 1

I decided to take a challenge from a photographer who's blog I read. I LOVE her photos and she takes amazing photos. She is a great read!

The Challenge is to take a picture a day and do three things. So the challenge is called The 365 day to 300% better photos!

The challenge is A) one photo a day B)Read one page in your camera manual a day and C) View at least one other professional photographers picture every day.

So with this new challenge at hand I thought today would be the most perfect day to start. I signed the list yesterday, and today on the way to our eye appointment for Tyler I put my trusty camera IN my bag and this is what I got.

The blogs I looked at today for Photographers were Adam Barker ( I look at his almost everyday) I don't want to do landscape but I find his pictures very interesting and he finds the most perfect element for breathe taking photos.

And I looked at Angie Andrews photos. I love them. She has taken some for us and I have always loved hers.

I took this photo of Dallas and our son Tyler. I have the original in black and white and I love it. I made a copy for the coffee table in the sitting room. The challenge was to use a texture. I kinda liked this one. Not a favorite but textures are all new to me. I want to find some softer ones that I like using but this one still worked well for me.

This is the above photo in just black and white before adding a texture and a action in Photo shop. I tend to crop and and re size in other programs but that is what I came up with.

Taking pictures of THINGS not just people is something I want to keep getting better at. Some of the best pictures are just things.

I have really enjoyed crafting and painting and the works so I did this for my Aunt Linda.

Its a Monogram of her Last name initial. I am going to be heading up to help her with some scentsy stuff and figured I would give it to her then .

My Grandpa's Funeral

I think I posted a few of these before or at least I did on my OTHER blog. But here are some photos from my grandfathers graveside service. I didn't take as many as I would like because my sweet baby was not a happy camper. But here is what I came up with!

This one is probably my favorite of the day. This was the spray that my mom and her sisters and my Grandma Carol had for him. My favorite is the Pine. The pine was perfect for my grandpa.

This is my Grandpa's "older" brother. He has buried his 2 babies brothers pretty close together. He is strong and going and one of my most favorite people. He is one of the constants whenever we go home to visit.

This is the Sheriff Lamar Guymon. He worked with my grandpa for a long time in many different capacities. He was a speaker at the funeral. He is also a very close family friend. While I was trying to get some decent photos he was hoovering over with his umbrella trying to keep me from getting wet. I have a deep respect for this man. And with Cell number in hand he sent me on my way telling me to call when I got stuck in the canyon and he would come rescue me... AGAIN!

The man on the right is my Uncle Royce and his wife. Again some constants in my life. Uncle Royce is my grandmothers brother. The little town we lived in is CRAWLING with all of my family. You can't even go to the post office without running into some sweet old person from my childhood is more than happy to give you a hug! These people have changed and shaped my life.

This is the wreath that my Cousin Kristi put together. It has my cousins names on the Christmas balls that will be put up by my grandparents grave side each year.

The gun salute was pretty amazing in the quiet of the cemetery. What a great experience to see these men do something so honorary for my grandfather was breathe taking.

Tyler- My new years resolution

The last few days at home have been SO much better now that I am starting to feel better. So the camera came out and we have been having A LOT A LOT of fun. The bad part.. Kiddo won't hold still. But yesterday he was being a musician.

The other things I have been doing is working on my actual picture TAKING. So as I read and study new things I learn a little more about what makes a good picture. I am learning a TON on photo shop and used a few of my first actions today.

He is a great kid and a super super cute!

Michelle and her family were so much fun! I hadn't seen her in a few years but she is just as gorgeous as ever! And her fiancee' NOT thrilled about photos but he was a good sport!

This was one of my favorite photos of the day! At first glance I thought it was a little over exposed. But I think it turned out pretty good.

I Heart Faces

I have not been very good at keeping up with the I heart faces contest. I haven't been very good at taking many pictures. But the theme this week is excited and my mind went quickly to the photo of Tyler riding his new bike.

I am not wild in love with the composition of the photo and it has some lovely blur from movement but I am in love with the excitement that is on his little face. Living with a disability he has out done and beaten so many odds. His Joy in things like a tricycle is more than I could capture on film.

Fix it Friday is once again upon us. I LOVE playing with photos. I have had a few shoots this week so this was a welcome mix up. Not to mention packing and getting things set up to MOVE! YIKES!

This is the Original. Very good shot and I really liked it how it was.

This is what I decided to do with it. I turned it as a mirror image. Rotated, played with the coloring and just keep doing things till I like how it was.

I used Photoshop CS4 and Picnik.

Thank you to all who have allowed me to take pictures of their families and children. Because we are moving I am not going to be doing many more appointments UNLESS you CALL and make an appointment and you get a follow up email or call. Also if you get them done I cannot guarantee that they will all be done by the time we leave Arizona.
